Mark Weiser Portfolio

Mark Weiser

I explain my deep affection for Celtic lore this way. "First I fell in love with an Irish woman and then I fell in love with all things Irish." My Irish and Celtic art is me trying to immerse myself into the learning of Ireland's colorful, sometimes violent and yet still friendly environment of both myth and people. Special orders are available in both wood and slate. My carving is the Gaelic language done in the ancient Ogham alphabet . (Pronounced Ōhm).
Ogham is an early medieval alphabet used to write the early Irish language, and later the Old Irish language. There are roughly 400 surviving orthodox inscriptions on stone monuments throughout Ireland and western Britain. The Ogham "Welcome" reads bottom to top when vertical. Welcome is written in Irish/Gaelic, not English so the sign actually says Failte. Ireland is Eire, Love is Gra, etc.

The artwork below is 6" x 12" slate stone carved by myself with the Ogham alphabet. Each slate has on each reverse side a description and pronunciation.

Fáilte or "Welcome"

An eight foot polished walnut sign of pride at your front door or entryway. Carved and then filled with small black stones. This magnificent piece is an excellent and unique way to show your Irish pride. Approximately 16" wide. See  more detail photos below.
